History

Digital Game-Based Learning began surfacing within the last couple of decades. Most K-12 students in schools today have lived their entire lives with technology. The 1980s saw a big boom of technology with many households purchasing and using personal computers.

Gaming systems have always been around but the technology greatly improved in the 1990s and 2000s. Systems today have technology that can track a person's movement to allow greater user interaction.

With the 2000s came the introduction of iPods, iPhones, iPads, and all of the latest laptop/notebook computers. Educational games can be downloaded onto one device and then used with another device by synchronizing the apps and information. "Game-based learning has gained considerable traction since 2003." (Horizon Report, 2012).
